Harold Paul Faler, 93, passed away peacefully at the Sublette Center on May 24.

Harold was born Jan. 24, 1921, in the Faler home in Pinedale. He was the sixth child of Vint and Lillian Faler. Other than his time in the Navy, Harold lived, went to school, worked, raised his family and died in Pinedale. He was very proud of that and often wondered if he might not hold title to the oldest living lifetime resident.

Harold went off to war and served his country in the Navy in the Pacific Theater from 1943 until his discharge in 1945. His ship participated in six major battles in the Pacific. Harold was the official ship photographer. He came home with a box full of official Navy photos that got put on a shelf in a closet. After 60-plus years, he shared those treasures with his family, and they made their way into albums that he was so very proud of. He loved to share his albums and his WWII experiences with his community after he moved into his apartment at Sublette Center.

Harold married the love of his life, Beulah Millar in June 1944. Upon his return from the war, the young couple operated the Boulder Store, later moving to Pinedale and building the business that would be known as Faler's General Store. There were many lean years, as well as years of hard work, sacrifice, determination and a willingness to borrow money to build the business. Along the way, there was also love, laughter, a harmless practical joke or two and always deep devotion to family.

Harold served not only his country but his community. He served on bank and school boards, donated hours to the Rendezvous Pageant and barbecue and hired local folks and young people to work for him. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 4801, Master Mason in Franklin Lodge No. 31 for more than 50 years and a member of Korein Shriners in Rawlins. Harold has been interviewed and had articles published in both local and state newspapers. His life history is a true testimonial to what it meant to be one of the Greatest Generation.

Beulah Faler, Harold's wife of 64 years, and his sons Lester and Judson Faler preceded Harold in death. He leaves behind his younger brother, Maurice Faler; Maurice's wife Joy; niece Lisa Shipley; sister-in-law Ida (Donald) Faler and her four daughters, Karol Faler Krug, Karen Faler Coulter, Pam Faler and Dawn Faler Jensen; nephews Kenneth Faler and Russ Millar; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
