Lorene Barnes, formerly of Utica, passed away June 8, 2014 in Des Moines, IA at the age of 87 years, 7 months and 17 days. Lorene Maxine Barnes was born October 22, 1926 to Selman "Sam" and Frieda (Haase) Dittmar at Milford, NE. She was baptized November 7, 1926 at St. John Lutheran Church in Seward. The family moved to a farm four miles north of Utica. She attended Immanuel Lutheran School and was confirmed on June 2, 1940. She attended Utica High School.
Lorene was united in marriage to Bert Barnes on September 28, 1943 at Portsmouth, VA; the couple was blessed with three children. Lorene began working at the Houchen Bindery in 1958 and worked there most of her life, retiring in 1991; she also worked at the Utica Community Care Center as well. Services were held 6/17/2014 at St Paul Lutheran Church, Utica, NE. Inurnment was in the Utica Cemetery, Utica, NE.
