Mrs. Emma Horst, 79, died Sunday at a local care home. She had been ill for several weeks. Services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church. The Rev. Larry Casper will officiate. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery. Visitation was to be Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to Messiah Lutheran Church.

Mrs. Horst was born May 30, 1899, on a farm north of Grand Island, the daughter of August and Caroline Schaubdach Hamann. She attended rural school nearby and grew up on her parents' farm. On Jan. 23, 1921, she married William Horst in Grand Island. They farmed near Doniphan until moving to Grand Island in 1947 after Mr. Horst was injured in a farm accident. He died Jan. 17, 1967. She lived in the family home until three years ago when ill health forced her to move to a care home. Mrs. Horst was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church.

Survivors include two sons, Merle of Doniphan and William of Grand Island; four daughters, Mrs. Hollis Steinbeck of Doniphan, Mrs. Glen Vanosdall of Grand Island; Mrs. Victor Goerl of St. Libory and Mrs. David Thomssen of Lincoln; a brother, Fred Hamann of Grand Island; four sisters, Mrs. Louise Hongsermeier, Mrs. William Knefelkamp and Margaret Hamann, all of Grand Island, and Mrs. Alice Dankert of Cairo, 22 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers.
