Note: I removed Sid's birth year because it was a date assigned by the Sand Springs Home. His biological mother was born in 1892, so it would be very unlikely that he was born in 1900, the year chosen by the orphanage. His original story was that he arrived at Charles Page's place when he was 5 years old. And documents support that he arrived in 1908; therefore, 1903 is a more likely birth year for him instead of 1900.

Sidney and his brother Cecil were two of the first five orphaned boys to be brought to Charles Page. In 1908, the boys' maternal grandmother, Rhoda Parker Puett Jackson, and her new husband, John Jackson came from Madison County Arkansas to Wagoner, OK where they married. Then the new couple proceeded to Tulsa County where they dropped the boys off with Charles Page. In the 1910 US Census both boys are listed as living in the Sand Springs Home Orphanage in Wekiwa Township in Tulsa County, Oklahoma under the surname "Jack". According to Sand Springs Home Trustee Ron Weese the surnames of "Jack" and "Ray" were given to children in the SS Home if the children's true surname was unknown.

Two of the SS Home employees/associates Mr. Breeding and Mr. Antle helped the boys find their true surname. Mr Breeding and Mr Antle used the best evidence at their disposal and concluded that the boys were the sons of Maud Jackson and Jim Rainer and the boys supposedly had been born in St Paul, Madison County, Arkansas. But subsequent research on the boys' roots has found that the mother was Bessie Maud Puett whose stepfather was John Jackson which caused the confusion that her name might have been Maud Jackson.

Moreover, the SS Home didn't know the boys' true birth dates so they were initially assigned the birthday of Dec 25. Later, the Home helped the boys choose birth dates. However, Sid chose May 6, 1900 even though his original story of arriving at Charles Page's place at age 5 in 1908 would make his true birth year 1903. Sid's biological father is still unknown but seems to be a man with the surname Ritchie from Madison County, Arkansas. The DNA of nine of Sid's descendants highly match the DNA of the descendants of Ritchie families who lived in Madison County, Arkansas in 1900. However, Sid's descendants' DNA did not match well the DNA of any Rainer families. Therefore, it is very likely that Sid's true surname should have been Ritchie not Rainer.

As a boy, Sid had terrible ear aches and allergies which hindered his progress in school; therefore he dropped out of school in third grade and was assigned to work as a cow hand with Charles Page's cattle north of Sand Springs and later in his teenage years he worked as a lifeguard at the Sand Springs Lake Park which was also owned by Charles Page. Both Sid and his brother Cecil also became truck drivers for the SS Home and drove dump trucks during the construction of Shell Creek Lake and then later worked as delivery drivers for the SS Home Water Bottling Company. The brothers rented an apartment together in old West Tulsa. This provided the opportunity for Sid to meet West Tulsa resident Marie Ella Johnson. The two married in 1921 with Cecil as their witness. Sid and Marie had three children who survived to adulthood: Carol, June, and Sid Jr.
