James is survived by his three children, Keith W. Buell, of Oneida, N.Y.; Kevin J. Buell, of Oneida, N.Y.; and Karen L. Frohlich and son in-law Scott E. Frohlich, of Tarpon Springs, Fla. Three grandchildren, Dusty J. Buell, Misty L. McWilliams, and Miranda K. Frohlich, also survive him.

James loved his home state of New York. He spent his entire life there, except for the last three years of his life when he moved to Florida to be near his daughter and her family. James had a wonderful sense of humor that he shared with everyone he met. He was a notorious prankster, especially with his many nieces and nephews. He loved sunshine and the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping, and sports, especially, baseball. He enjoyed Scrabble, card games, music, and singing. He was a kind and compassionate man. He loved, and was loved by, his family. All who knew him will miss him.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Feed the Children or the Humane Society of the United States.
Calling hours will be held at 9 a.m. with a Celebration of Life service at 9:30 a.m. on June 14, 2014, at St. John's Episcopal Church, Oneida, N.Y.
