Funeral services for Velma Coral Moyer, 82, formerly of Rt. 5, Kirksville, will be held Saturday afternoon October 15, 1977 at 2 o'clock in the Johnson Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Maple Hills Cemetery.
Mrs. Moyer died Thursday morning October 13, 1977 at 11:22 in a Kirksville hospital where she had been a patient for two hours. Before entering the hospital she had been a resident of Kirksville Manor Care Center for one and a half years.
She had been in failing health for several months, however death was unexpected and attributed to an apparent heart attack.
Born July 16, 1895 in Youngstown, she was the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Shafer Pope. On January 11, 1914 in Youngstown she was married to Thomas Earl Moyer who preceded her in death on January 16, 1976. Also preceding her in death were an infant son, and 4 brothers, Curly Pope, Leslie Pope, Orville Pope and Kenneth Pope.
Surviving are two sons, Harold Moyer of Brashear and Rev. Orland Moyer of Golden City; six grandchildren, Diana Erwin, Joyce Dunce, Michael Moyer, Jerry Moyer, Jeffrey Moyer and Mark Moyer and 3 great-grandchildren, Suzanne and Stephanie Erwin and Thomas Moyer.
Mrs. Moyer was reared in western Adair County where she attended rural school. Following her marriage she and her husband were engaged in farming until 1930 when they moved to Millard. In 1942 they moved to a farm northeast of Kirksville where they lived intil April, 1976 when she moved to the nursing home. She was a member of the East Center Church.
Bearers will be Virgil Steele, Richard Coy, Gary Lewis, Eugene Casey, Marlen McClanahan and Randy Birckhead.
