He was the son of William Brook and Matilda Snyder Bechdel. He was born in Liberty Township Centre County Pennsylvania. He headed West as a young man and worked as a cook in the Gold mines of Colorado. He visited home at least twice and wrote all is family very often. He died in an avalanche in the Winter of 1933. His body was not located until the Spring.
His family mourned his loss greatly, his brother Edgar wept and greived deeply, a memorable affair, as he was the mortician.
Egdar traveled out to Colorado at least once right after Charles was found. He had sent Edgar and Maude a lovely silver teaset as a wedding gift. His sister Anna accidentally melted the tray of the teaset on a woodstove. Charles was missed by the next several generations.
