Pastor Russell Lee Warner

Carterville - Pastor Russell Lee Warner, 75, passed away on Wednesday, June 4, 2014, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, June 7, 2014, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with Elder Chuck Kuhn officiating. Burial will be in Blairsville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m., Saturday, at the funeral home. Russell was born on November 11, 1938, the eighth child of Virgil Alfred and Ruth Alice (Burress) Warner. He married Charlotte Anne Pugh on November 8, 1974, and she preceded him in death on September 24, 1989. There were no children to this marriage. He honorably served our country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Russell became Pastor of Grace Bible Church on the second Sunday of March 1981.

Below are his own writings on faith and beliefs:

"My confession is that I was born a sinner and as lost sheep was found by Christ. That salvation is all of grace--unmerited favor--not of any works done by the sinner to receive nor to maintain nor keep saved. Elected by the Father, bought by the Son, ministered to by the Word, sealed by the Holy Spirit. That Christ's blood and righteousness is the alone ground of his salvation. My hope and confident assurance is the finished work of Christ, His promise and in no other thing or person. My delight is the Word and the wholesome revelation of that by the Spirit and to the glory of the Father in keeping His Word to each of His own. Grace Bible Church has been the 'best ever' in my few yet sinful years. Such a privilege to pastor God's people - the true brethren of whom I love dearly. To each one who professes to be part of the body of Christ here, I urge you to be faithful to God's Word, the church, the gospel, your family, and yourself. May your memory be of Christ and not of me."
