Duane Lee Aalbers passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2014. After his wife Darlene's third heart surgery and after caring for her he allowed himself to succumb to cancer two days short of 59 years of marriage and of being together for 60 years. He was born on September 13, 1935 in Outley, Iowa.

Duane graduated from Oskaloosa, Iowa. High School in 1953 and joined the Iowa National Guard. He met and married Darlene Faye Sanders on June 5, 1955. He enjoyed his dog Bandy, woodworking, trains, mushroom hunting, camping, fishing, the RV, restoring his 1941 antique John Deere Tractor, exploring the USA with his 4x4 and gardening. He was active as a Boy Scout Troop Leader and as an Elder, Deacon and sang in the choir at the Union Park Presbyterian Church in Des Moines, Iowa.

Duane worked 45 years in vending as an Operation Manager and Master Machine Technician in Iowa and Washington. A friend and "go to man" for friends and relatives. He co-owned with Darlene a Laundromat and Dairy Queen in Des Moines, Iowa. He was talented as a trouble shooter and enjoyed antiquing and restoring old items. He also enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandson.

Duane is proceeded in death by his son Dennis Duane Aalbers, his parents Gradus Dan Aalbers, Lenita Aalbers and brothers Gaylen Aalbers, Glen Aalbers and Donald Aalbers. He is survived by his wife of 59 years Darlene Faye Aalbers their children Steven Dan Aalbers, Nancy Lee Tyree, Laurie Lynn Selle, his grandchildren Joshua Parker, Jeremiah Parker, Joseph Parker, Emily Aalbers, Colton Selle, Kaylee Aalbers, Taryn Aalbers, Cody Selle, Cassie Selle, Brian Gustafson, great grandson Peter Parker, Sisters Sandy Logue and LaNeva Gauley.
