Following an illness for 10 days, Charles Samuel (Sam) Deacon, 71, a retired farmer of the Buchanan community, Spargursville, Rt. 1, died at 10:05 p.m. Thursday at Portsmouth General Hospital.
A native of Pike County, Mr. Deacon was born Feb. 12, 1880. He was a member of the Buchanan Community Church and was a 32nd degree Mason.
Surviving are one son, William of Spargursville Rt.1; two daughters, Mrs. Virginia Lee Abbott of Seminole, Okla., and Mrs. Donna Jean Henderson of Cocoa, Fla.; and one brother, Floyd of New Madison.
His wife Blanche, and one son preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Buchanan Community Church and burial will be in Mount Latham Cemetery under the direction of Boyer Funeral Home.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 8 tonight.
