Austin Garn Heywood, Sr., 79, loving husband, father, son, and uncle, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on May 31, 2014 in Riverton.

He was born to Austin and Nellie Heywood on September 7, 1934 in Panguitch.

Garn graduated from Cedar High School in Cedar City. He married Jenean Girot on March 20, 1958 in the Salt Lake Temple.

He received a BA degree in Business from Brigham Young University in Provo. For twenty-nine years, Garn was a customer service oriented sales agent for Allstate Insurance. Although he retired from Allstate, he never retired from his passion of sales and serving people.

He was an avid BYU sports enthusiast and a lifetime member of the BYU Cougar Club.

Garn was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served an honorable mission to Argentina. Garn served in various callings, including chorister, choir director, bishop, and counselor in the stake presidency of the Liberty Stake. He also served as an ordinance worker at the Jordan River Temple.

He is survived by his sweetheart, Jenean; their four children, Torrie L. Benson (Dr. Michael K), Charleston, Illinois; Bobbett Evans, Riverton; Austin G. Heywood, Jr., Sandy; and JaNell DeWeese Child (Evan A.), Riverton; sixteen grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Austin and Nellie Heywood; brother, Richard Heywood; brother-in-law, Lloyd Grames; sister-in-law, Eleanor Heywood; and son-in-law, Brand DeWeese.

The viewings will be held on Friday, June 6, 2014 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and Saturday, June 7, 2014 from 10:00-10:45 a.m. prior to the funeral services, which will begin at 11:00 a.m., in the Bluffdale Utah Stake Center, 2742 West 14400 South, Bluffdale.
Interment will follow at Lake Hills Memorial Park.
