Born February 9, 1917 in St. Louis, MO., to John Shaughnessy and Harriet King Shaughnessy. She moved to Bakersfield in 1933 where she lived with her aunt Margaret King and worked at The Bakersfield Californian.
Dolores married William Bud Phoenix in 1938 and had 2 daughters, Dolores Dianne Dougherty of Palm Springs, CA and Margaret Stephanie Barrett of Bakersfield.
She was a loyal employee of the Bakersfield City School District for many years. She was preceded in death by Bud Phoenix and her second husband Crofford Bridges. She leaves behind ten grandchildren, Erin Gotcher, Patrick Dougherty, Tara Newkirk, Megan West, Michael Barrett, Heather Ramos, Kevin Dougherty, Jenny Soto, Briana Dougherty and Brian Dougherty. She also had six great-grandchildren, Ashley Barrett, Sean Dougherty, William and Tony Gotcher, Hannah Newkirk and Maya Ramos. She also leaves her sister, Harriet Gordon of Los Angeles and numerous friends and family.
Beloved by her family and friends she will be greatly missed.
Funeral mass to be held at St. Francis Catholic Church, Monday, January 26 at 10 a.m. Interment following at Hillcrest Cemetery.
