Ruth Elizabeth Gardner, 80, of 2028 Route 956 in Wilmington Township, Lawrence County, died at 1 a.m. Wednesday at Jameson Memorial Hospital, New Castle.
Born in Scott Township, Lawrence County, June 17, 1924, she was the daughter of Clarence Floyd and Clara Elizabeth Young Gardner.
She was a homemaker and a partner in the C.F. Gardner & Sons farming operations until 1988. She was a longtime member of Plain Grove Grange and enjoyed quilting, sewing, baking and flower gardening.
Miss Gardner was a lifetime member of the Plain Grove Presbyterian Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher, deacon and belonged to the Presbyterian Women. She also was an active member of the Christian Endeavor.
Surviving are two brothers, C. Edwin and C. Floyd Gardner, both at home; a niece, Lois M. McConnell of Volant; two nephews, Clarence N. Hoye of Cortland, Ohio, and Donald J. Hoye of New Wilmington; and a brother-in-law, John C. Hoye of Volant.
A sister, Blanche G. Hoye, preceded her in death.
GARDNER - Friends of Ruth Elizabeth Gardner, who died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2004, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 310 W. Neshannock Ave., New Wilmington. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Plain Grove Presbyterian with the Rev Robert Dayton officiating. Burial will be at South Plain Grove Cemetery, Plain Grove Township, Lawrence County.
Memorial contributions may be made to Plain Grove Presbyterian Church or the City Rescue Mission of New Castle.
