Addison A. Potter

Addison A. Potter, eldest son of the late Joseph Smith and Margaret Ann Cooley Potter, was born in Frankfort, Herkimer Co., N.Y., Dec. 22, 1843, and died at the home of his son, William T. Potter, in Lincklaen, N.Y., July 30, 1914, aged 70 years, 7 months, 8 days.

Mr. Potter was married to Miss Chattie Huntley of Marathon on Jan. 1, 1867. Two sons were born of this union, Edmund A. and Theodore W., the latter of whom died Jan. 12, 1880 following his mother by two days.

On Nov. 2, 1881, Mr. Potter was united in marriage to Miss Jennie Allen of South Otselic. This union was blessed by two daughters and one son, Mrs. L. C. Stillman and Mrs. Clifford Davis and William T. Potter, all of whom survive. Deceased had been a resident of South Otselic about 50 years.

The deceased had been in his usual health and left Sunday morning to make a visit to his farm, where he was stricken with apoplexy Thursday, July 30, about 11 o'clock, a. m., and passed away at 1 o'clock without regaining consciousness. His family was at his bedside when he was called. He was discovered by his wife about 12 o'clock lying on some straw on the barn floor. She summoned help and he was removed to the house and Dr. Perkins called. The remains were brought to his home in this village where the funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, Aug. 1 at 2 o'clock, Rev. Albert Briddon of DeRuyter officiating. Interment was made in Valley View cemetery. The bearers were the two brothers, William C. Potter of Cincinnatus and Edmund T. Potter and William T. Potter. Among the friends from out of town in attendance were Mr. and Mrs. William C. Potter of Cincinnatus, Mr. and Mrs. Edmund T. Potter of Pharsalia, Mr. and Mrs. G. M. Currier of Cortland and Mr. and Mrs. F. G. Allen and Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Pike of Mariposa.

South Otselic—Addison A. Potter was born at Frankfort, Herkimer Co., Dec. 22, 1843, and died in Lincklaen July 30, 1914, aged 70 years, 7 months and 8 days. He was a son of Joseph Smith and Margaret Ann Potter, being the eldest of three sons. About fifty years ago his parents moved to South Otselic. Nearly all of the time since Mr. Potter has lived in this immediate vicinity. Jan. 1, 1867, he was married to Miss Chattie A. Huntley of Marathon. Two children were born to them, Edmund A. and Theodore W. The last named died January 12, 1880. Mrs. Potter died January 10, 1880. On November 2, 1881, Mr. Potter married Miss Jennie Allan of South Otselic. Three children were born to them, Lilla, William T. and Fern A. For a number of years Mr. Potter followed the trade of blacksmith at South Otselic. He had been in poor health for several years. The immediate cause of his death was apoplexy.

He is survived by his wife and four children, Edmund A., William T., Mrs. L. C. Stillman and Mrs. Clifford Davis, all of this place, and two brothers, William C. of Cincinnatus and Edmund T. of Pharsalia.

The funeral was held from his late home in South Otselic Aug. 1, Rev. Albert Bridden of DeRuyter officiating. Interment in Valley View cemetery.
