Richard Dowdell
Richard O. Dowdell, 71, of 605 Elm St., died Wednesday at St. Catherine's Hospital in East Chicago.
Retired from R. W. Poole Co. Inc., he was a sergeant of arms of Moose Lodge 1357 and a member of Fellowship Degree Pottawatomie Legion 94, Eagles Aerie 2517 and Elks 500. Born in Valparaiso Sept. 26, 1909. a son of Earl and Augusta (Weinkauff) Dowdell, he married Eva Grass in Plymouth Dec. 8, 1935. She died in 1972.
Surviving are two daughters, Kay Omo of Valparaiso and Margaret Tompos of Nappanee; two sons, Kenneth of Kenosha, Wis., and Richard of Valparaiso; five grandchildren; and two sisters, Ethel Casbon of Valparaiso and Florence Wiesjahn of Hobart.
Services 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Bartholomew Funeral Home and 1 p.m. at St. Paul's Catholic church; Monsignor John J. Charlebois officiating; burial in Graceland cemetery; visitation 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home; rosary at 7 p.m.; Moose rites at 8 p.m.; Eagles service at 8:15 p.m.; memorials to St. Catherine's Hospital.
