Obituary

Gladys Virginia Haddaway, 88, of Glen Burnie, died May 26 at Fairfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Crownsville. Born August 23, 1925 in Galeton, PA to the late James Albert and Grace Amanda Chaffee Fergus, Mrs. Haddaway graduated from Trumansburg Central in Trumansburg, NY, class of 1944. In 1946, she married Walter Howard Higgins, who preceded her in death in 1951. She started working with Sampson Naval Training Center in Sampson, NY and later worked with the United States Army as an Administrative Assistant from 1951 until she retired in 1985. She remarried to John "Jack" Haddaway in 1966. They moved from Glen Burnie to Kingstown in Chestertown, in 1985. On December 13, 1995, her husband preceded her in death and in 2007 she moved back to Glen Burnie to be closer with her family. Mrs. Haddaway was a member of the Women of the Moose Lodge. She enjoyed bowling, sewing, ceramics, reading and her family whether she would be babysitting or visiting. She is survived by two sons, Howard Higgins and wife Ellie, of Glen Burnie, and John Higgins and wife Rita of New Windsor; brother, James A. Fergus of Ithica, NY; sister, Marjorie Babcock of Catskill, NY; ; three grandchildren and five great grandchildren. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, May 29 in Still Pond Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your local hospice. Arrangements entrusted to Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. Chestertown.
