Vidalia - Mr. Charles Barrett Brantley, 95, died Thursday, January 19, 2006 at the Community Hospice House in Vidalia. He was born October 26, 1910 in Toombs County, GA., and lived most of his life in Vidalia. He was the retired president of Brantley Furniture Company in Vidalia that he owned with his two brothers, was active for many years in civic, religious and social affairs in the community and had been an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Vidalia where he had served as president of the Men's Bible Class and Chairman of the Administrative Board. He was a devout Christian, who lived his faith. Mr. Brantley was a passionate fisherman, craftsman and gardener of vegetables, fruits and flowers and he loved sharing the rewards of his garden with his family and friends. He was also an avid reader and a story teller. He had a lust for life that always centered around his loving family. Mr. Brantley was preceded in deathby his parents, Cleveland Harris and Loura Partin Brantley, two sisters and seven brothers. Mr. Brantley is survived by his beloved wife of almost seventy years, Adra Hamilton Brantley; one son, James Brantley and his wife, Louise; two daughters, Ann Powell and her husband, Van and Nita Moate and her husband, Sam all of Vidalia; eight grandchildren, 16 great -grandchildren; one great -great-grandson; one brother, Jerry Norwood Brantley of Clinton, TN and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m., Friday at Murchison Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, January 21, 2006 at First United Methodist Church of Vidalia.
