Thomas Vernon Wyllsey (Sr.) was born in Pennsylvania in 1860. He married Lula Blair and they had one son, Thomas Vernon Wyllsey, Jr., who was born in Maryland in 1902. The 1910 Federal census indicates that Thomas Sr. was an architectural draftsman and Lula was a dressmaker working at home. The 1910 census also notes that the Wyllseys had 2 children with one surviving.

Lula died in September 1910, and the elder Thomas then married Mary (Cunningham) Bulette, the widow of William F. Bulette (1853-1912). They lived at 3406 Park Heights Avenue in Baltimore.

The 1930 Federal census lists Thomas Sr. living at the Southern Hospital Home located on Greenmount Avenue in Baltimore. He is perhaps erroneously listed as widowed. A divorce decree was reported in the York Dispatch (Pennsylvania) on 12 May 1924 between Thomas Wyllsey and Mamie Wyllsey; this Mamie may refer to Mary Wyllsey.

The date of his death is found in his will, which was executed on Apr. 12, 1926 and recorded in Baltimore June 17, 1931 following the elder Wyllsey's death. His son Thomas Vernon Wyllsey, Jr., was the sole heir.

Name appears in some documents (e.g., 1910 Federal census) as the compound surname Wernon Wyllsoy. Name appears variously in his will and associated recording documents with a compound surname or with the middle name Wernon or Vernon.
