Ellie Darlene Perry Prueitt was born Feb. 12, 1936, to Mr/Mrs Robert Lee Perry Sr. in Waxahachie, Texas. She met the love of her life, Harold Prueitt in high school in Hamilton, Texas. They were married in June 1953. Their daughter, Cynthia, joined them in 1955.

Darlene entered Angelo State University as a non-traditional student where she graduated with honors. While in college she began her career in the travel industry with the support of her adoring husband. Darlene and Harold always had an open door to all. Facundo Cortez Jr. and Billy Mauldin were two young men that entered their lives and became like sons.

After surviving the tragic loss of the love of her life in 1983, Darlene opened her own travel agency. She traveled the world with great passion accompanied by many previous friends. Throughout her career she treasured her clients and her community. She was a charter member of Southland Baptist Church and was active in the San Angelo Business and Professional Women's Club.

Due to illness she was forced to retire from the career she loved so much in 1995. Darlene was strong willed and tenacious even to the end.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and both brothers, Robert Perry Jr. and Travis Perry. She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Johnson and her husband, Kavin of San Angelo; by her grandsons, Travis Johnson and Jeremy Hale, both of San Angelo; by beloved sisters-in-law, Mary Perry and Gloria Perry; by nieces Vanessa Clark and Sue Heidelberg, as well as numerous grandnieces and nephews.

Darlene would want to leave a message to us all: Love one another, keep your family close and hold to your faith. A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, June 2, 2014, in San Angelo's First United Methodist Church's Heritage Hall. In lieu of flowers please consider a charity of your choice or a donation to West Texas Counseling and Guidance or Hospice of San Angelo.
