Sigward Bertham Salberg
Sigward Bertham Salberg was born on a farm in Prairie Center Township, Clay County, South Dakota on December 17, 1899, the son of Sivert and Beret Salberg. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith at Nazareth Lutheran church of Centerville, and was a member of that congregation. He received his education in the rural Clay county schools.

On August 29, 1929 he was united in marriage to Esther O. Backlund at Dalesburg Baptist parsonage, and to this union was born one daughter, Marjory Ann. They lived on a farm in Prairie Center township for their first seven years of married life and then moved to their home in Garfield township where he resided until his death.

A farmer all his life, he was stricken with a severe heart attack on July 5, 1971, and spent three weeks at Dakota hospital in Vermillion. He returned home and enjoyed good health for several months until his sudden death on Sunday morning, Nov 14.

He was a member of the Farmers Union, secretary and treasurer of the Glenwood local, and a board member of the Tri-County Farmers Union of Beresford. He spent many Sunday afternoons visiting in rest homes, hospitals, and with shut-ins in their homes.

He is survived by his daughter, Marjory Ann; two sisters, Mrs. Selma Jaeger of Vermillion and Mrs. Ella Lyso of Wakonda; a brother, John of Vermillion, several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and two brothers, John B. and Albert A.

Many relatives have been visiting here with the bereaved families, following the deaths of Sigward B. Salberg and Evert Nelson. Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Dahlquist and Mr. and Mrs. George Erickson attended the memorial services held for Mr. Evert Nelson in Vermillion Saturday afternoon.

Luncheon guests in the Mrs. AW Jensen home Tuesday evening after the family service for Sigward Salberg at the Iverson Funeral home were Mr. and Mrs. Donald Nelson, Mr. and Mrs. Don Jensen and family, Mrs. Art Backlund, Mrs. Joe Ostrem, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Anderson, Marge Salberg, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Lindblom, Mr. and Mrs. Don Twedt, Mr. and Mrs. Arlan Ostrem, Mr. and Mrs. Milton Twedt and Patty, Mrs. Fritz Helstrom, Doris Brown, Mr. and Mrs. Julius Price and family, Mr. and Mrs. Rodney Schempp, Karen Nelson, Hans and Gunnard Lindblom and the Rev. and Mrs. Charles Franson.
