Margaret A. Oertel Gorski 95, of Leavenworth, KS passed away Thursday, May 29th, 2014 surrounded by her family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Monday June 2nd, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father George Bertels officiating.
Visitation will be Sunday, June 1st, 2014 from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM with the family present from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Belden Larkin Funeral Home, with a Rosary at 7:00 PM.
Burial will be in Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
Margaret was born November 9th, 1918 in Lansing, Kansas, the daughter of David W. and Catherine M. (Ortman) Burns.
Margaret attended and graduated from Immaculata High School in 1937.
She married Joseph G. Oertel on June 6th, 1942 in Leavenworth, Kansas at the Cathedral. He preceded her in death on July 21st, 1972. She then married Thomas L. Gorski on August 1st, 1981 in Leavenworth, Kansas. He preceded her in death on November 12th, 2001.
In 1923 two inmates escaped from Lansing, Kansas and Margaret's father was murdered leaving Margaret at age five, and her five siblings to be raised by her mother.
Margaret was a homemaker.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sacred Heart Altar Society, and volunteered at St. John's gift shop for many years, and NARFE.
She is survived by two sons; William D. Oertel and his wife Susan of Kansas City, Kansas, Thomas P. Oertel and his wife Linda of Leavenworth, one stepdaughter; Catherine A. Schwindt of Leavenworth, four grandchildren; Matthew, Brian and his wife Jessica, Mark and his wife Holly, Chad and his wife Annie, four great grandchildren; Lily, Conor, Grant, and Rebecca, and one great grandchild to be born in September,
six step grandchildren; Kevin and Peter Wiehe, Charlene White, Darlene Iannoe, Amy and Aric Schwindt; one daughter in law; Mary Ann Oertel, one sister; Bette and her husband Roland Des Moines, Washington, and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one son; Joseph G. Oertel, Jr., two brothers; Robert and Leo Burns, two sisters; Katherine Mitchener, Lillian Baugher, and two infant twin brothers.
Memorials in her name may be directed to Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Leavenworth Assistance Center.
