Ernest A. Blumeyer was born August 13, 1865, at Vender, Germany. He was brought to America when six months of age and lived for a time at German Valley, Ill. Later, he lived in George, Iowa, where he remained until a young man. He returned to Illinois and was married on February 5, 1898, at Oregon, Ill. to Harmina Brass. They resided in Illinois until 1909, when they moved to Adrian, MN and later to Little Rock, Iowa. In 1917, Mr. & Mrs. Blumeyer came to South Dakota and resided in Brookings county since. They came to Bruce in 1937. Mr. Blumeyer was confirmed and entered the Zion Evangelical Lutheran church four years ago. On Monday, March 13, he suffered a stroke, resulting in partial paralysis. Complications developed and he passed away at his home the following Sunday morning, March 19, at the the age of 78 years. Eight children were born to Mr. & Mrs. Blumeyer. The oldest daughter, Mamie Soden, died in 1920, leaving an infant daughter, Floriene Soden, now Mrs. Howard Thompson, who was raised by Mr. & Mrs. Blumeyer. Surviving children are Mrs. Hilda Stewart and Mrs. Nellie Glatzel, Brookings; Arlene Loban, Shirley Rust, and Amos, Bruce; Mildred Halvorson, Sioux Falls;and Wilferd of Tacoma, Wash. There are sixteen grandchildren, two great grandchildren. One grandson, Jackie Stewart, with the navy, was unable to attend services. Funeral services were held at the Bruce Methodist church with Rev. Buch, Aurora, in charge. Burial was made in Greenwood cemetery, Brookings.
