Funeral services for Mrs. W. H. Acers, who passed away at her winter home in St. Petersburg, Florida, last week, were held at the home on North Franklin street Monday afternoon, at 2:30, and were conducted by Rev. S. R. Beatty, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church of this city. Interment was made in Oakland cemetery.
Mary J. Blaisdell was born in Arlington, Iowa, May 17, 1852, and when she was six years of age her family located in Manchester. She was united in marriage with Mr. W. H. Acers on October 12thm 1870, and to them was born one daughter Sadie, who passed away at the age of 8 years.
Mrs. Acers is survived by one brother, who resides at Ponca, Neb., and three sisters, two of whom reside at Strawberry Point, and one at Minneapolis, Minnesota. She also leaves her brother-in-law, Geo. S. Acers, and nephew, Henry Acers, of this city, besides a host of old-time friends.
Mrs. Acers was a devout Christian woman. She was a kind neighbor and a true friend to all those in need. She gave generously of her means to institutions that looked after the poor and unfortunate, and was ever ready and willing to minister to the sick and those in trouble.
During the past 25 years she and her husband had been in the habit of spending the winter months in their winter home in the south and during those years they formed many close friendships there. Before the remains of this good woman were started on the journey to Manchester funeral services were held in St. Petersburg, and were attended by a large circle of her friends.
In the death of Mrs. Acers Manchester loses another of its highly respected and beloved pioneer women, and many friends will miss her in the years to come.
