Leotis G. Weddle, 76, Spanish-American War veteran, died November 1 at his home in Faubush.

Mr. Weddle was born in this county Nov. 7, 1879, the son of the late Perry and Rhoda Emerson Weddle. He married Maude Tarter in Kansas over 52 years ago.

Mr. Weddle entered the Army in 1899 and fought in the Spanish-American War. He left the Army in 1901 with the rank of corporal.

Mr. Weddle professed his faith in Christ as a young man and united with the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. At the time of his death he and his wife were the oldest living members of that church.

Mr. Weddle was actively interested in bettering his community, county, and state and kept well informed on local and world affairs. He was a man of many talents and engaged in a wide variety of activities.

Mr. Weddle is survived by his wife, a foster-daughter, Mrs. Josephine Pierce Landess*, Norwood, Ohio; one brother, J.B. Weddle, Lawrenceburg, Ind.; two sisters, Mrs. Emily Wilson, Indianapolis, Ind. and Mrs. Gracie Pierce, Burnetta.

Funeral services were held last Friday at the Mt. Pisgah Church, the Rev. Bert Whitaker officiating. Burial was in the Mill Springs National cemetery.

*Note - Mary Josephine (Pierce) Landess was born January 20, 1916 in Pulaski County, Kentucky to Hugh Franklin Pierce and Lola (Tarter) Pierce. Lola (Tarter) Pierce and Maude (Tarter) Weddle were sisters. Lola died August 24, 1921. At the time of the 1930 and 1940 Censuses Mary Josephine was listed as a niece living with Leotis and Maude. Mary Josephine married Paul Frank Landess on August 27, 1950 in Norwood, Ohio. Mary Josephine died December 9, 1992 in Hamilton County, Ohio.
