Rita Velma Dabbs, 92, of Farmington, passed away on Monday, May 26, 2014, at Bee Hive Homes in Farmington. She was born Sept. 20, 1921, in Hotchkiss, Colo.
She married George Dabbs and he passed away Nov. 5, 1982.
All members of her immediate family are deceased. She is survived by several
nieces and nephews.
Rita was a Farmington High School English teacher for a couple of years. She
owned and operated Wallace Furniture Store in Farmington for approximately 70
years. For those in need, Rita was always willing to deal with her customers on credit at
Wallace Furniture. She had faith and trust in people that they would continue to
make payments, and her customers seldom let her down. Rita always guaranteed
the quality products she sold. Rita was proud of Farmington, and she was always interested in making it a better place to live.
She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, BPOE Does, Order of the
Eastern Star, and the Rebekahs. She enjoyed golfing and was an avid
fisher woman. Her favorite fishing holes were Molas Lake and Dulce Reservoir.
A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m., Friday, May 30, at Alternative Choice Funeral Chapel in Farmington. There will be no graveside service. She will be buried in Greenlawn Cemetery next to her husband George.
