Ruth was born March 19, 1923 to Ezra and Lydia Bumgardner in Dorton, Kentucky. In 1939 she married Lonnie Newsom in Jenkins, KY. In 1946 Ruth and Lonnie migrated to Kennewick, WA with their three small children. From the back hills of Kentucky coal country to the Richland "Y" operating the Flying A service station until 1952. They then operated the Pasco Steak House Restaurant until Lonnie's death in 1968. She married George Johns in 1969 and sold and invested in real estate properties in California, Florida and Kennewick, WA.

Ruth will be remembered as a loving and caring mother, sister and grandmother. She was the leader of her family as many of her family members followed her and migrated to Washington. Ruth had a true elegance and grace about her and was a very intelligent business woman.

Ruth is survived by her sister Ava Thacker, brothers Thurman and Truman Bumgardner, daughter Jane Taylor, son Forest Newsom, stepchildren Terry Johns, Janice Burian, Janelle Johns, Darrell Johns and a multitude of loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her half-sister Loretta, brother Paul, sisters Guthrie and Betty, her first husband Lonnie Jr. Newsom, second husband George Johns, daughter Ellonda and son Lonnie T.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 31, 2014, at 1:00 p.m., at Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home, 1401 S Union St., Kennewick, with viewing Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
