My Father's Brother Dick

In The Group Photo Richard Is Standing 6th To The Far Left.

It Is The Day Of Their Mama's Funeral.

He was the 6th child of 8 born to Henry and Annie "Laura" Simpson.

He was of a rather small size when he was born. His mother put him in a shoe box and would put him in the oven to keep him warm.

At age 3, on Thanksgiving Day in 1923, a horrific car/train accident claimed the life of his father Henry Simpson. Henry was not at fault. His father was only 37. His oldest brother William "Harold", age 11, was thrown from the vehicle and miraculously survived. His youngest brother James "Jimmy" was later born posthumously in April 1924. His father had co-owned the Hope Ice Company in Hope, Arkansas with his brothers. All who knew his father shared in this heartbreak.

As a kid, he loved walkin' the railroad tracks back home in and out of town with his younger brother Herb. They would walk to their favorite swimin' hole. Their close 9 year old cousin (first name)Simpson (last name)Gordon drowned there. His mother's father William C. Johnson had a brother named Elmer Johnson who had horses and was involved in horse racing. Riders Up, at age 15 he left home to live with uncle Elmer and join the horse racing circuit. He became very proficient as a jockey, gradually riding up to become well known among his peers as "R.R." or "Railroad Simpson".

In 1939(?) he joined the US Army and was headed straight into WW II. Shortly thereafter he met Nedine Louise Molinek the mother of his two children. They were married in Tacoma, Washington. They spent over 30 years together. After leaving the military he held many different jobs. He was a longtime resident of Parkland, Washington. During that time he was a volunteer firefighter. In 1985 he retired from Globe Ticket and Label Co. of Tacoma, Washington.

He cared deeply about the well being of his family. He is fondly remembered for his love of animals. He had a beautiful place in Parkland with his own horses for years. His love for animals is beyond love and compassion. In 1974 he went from Parkland to where his brother Buddy was in California when he had passed away, to rescue his dog. When he got there someone had stolen Buddy's dog. You could see how much his fur buddies loved him and he loved them back. He also had the most kind and generous side to him to a fault to want to help people down on their luck and he never needed much. His house was not a home unless it had some special decor of horses for mementos. That we will remember. He had a pair of cowboy boots, a favorite pair, didn't matter at times what he wore them with. That was his signature. He wasn't afraid to admit he started some trouble first between my dad and him getting my dad in trouble since they were kids. Those two, all said and done, they loved each other and now they are right by each other, that is what he wanted and his brother would have too. He loved the gift of giving. He treasured the thoughtfulness of someone else in thinking of him ❤

He was very patriotic. A son in Vietnam was life altering. He adored his daughter. He is so loved and missed by his family and friends.

His Loves.. He was predeceased by Nedine Simpson his first wife same date September 11th and his then longtime loving companion of 20 plus years Dolores "Lory" Lawler 2003*

WE HAVE A SECRET

We have a secret, you and I

that no one else shall know,

for who but I can see you lie

each night in fire glow?

And who but I can reach my hand

before we go to bed

and feel the living warmth of you

and touch your silken head?

And only I walk woodland paths

and see ahead of me,

your small form racing with the wind

so young again, and free.

And only I can see you swim

in every brook I pass

and when I call, no one but I

can see the bending grass.

AFTERGLOW

I'd like the memory of me to be a happy one.

I'd like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done.

I'd like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways,

Of happy times & laughing times and bright and sunny days.

I'd like the tears of those who grieve to dry before the sun,

Of happy memories that I leave behind when life is done.
