Civil War veteran - Company K, 8 Indiana Infantry. First wife, Eliza Manning, born about 1830 in Pennsylvania, married about 1848, died in January 1864 in Ovid, Madison County, Indiana, per James' pension records. Her burial place is currently unknown, although her parents and a couple of siblings are buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Hancock County, Indiana. James' second wife was Margaret Fritz, married October 10, 1865. Several of the children of Margaret and James are also buried in Russiaville Cemetery.
