He and Ruth were married in Elkton, Maryland in 1936; their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in 1952. Alan was born on January 25, 1909 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Ethel Dean Saville and James Tyler Young. He graduated from Babson Institute in Boston, Mass., and was granted a BS Degree. He retired to Salt Lake City following 40 of years service in Washington, D.C., as an auditor with the U.S. Government.Alan's life is best represented by two words: service and humor. Throughout his 87 years he served his God, his family, and his community with devoted and quiet accomplishment. Alan was an active member of the LDS Church and served faithfully in many capacities including Temple sealer. Alan was proud of his pioneer heritage and was an active member of the SUP, serving in numerous leadership positions at both local and national levels in an effort to keep the pioneer spirit alive.
Alan is survived by four sons, Alan Saville, Jr., Ephraim, Utah; Richard Barnes (Nancy), Jamesport, Missouri; Col. (USMC) David Heath (Patsy), Okinawa, Japan; and Ernest Tyler (Vickie), Pocatello, Idaho; a daughter, Marjorie Darcey (James Craig), Clearfield, Utah; and a daughter-in-law, Nancy Young Kramer (J. Michael), Yelm, Wash.; 30 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
We will miss his serene strength and courage and his gentle way of making us laugh. His family and multitude of friends regard him just slightly lower than the angels.
Funeral services Saturday, October 19th, at 11 a.m., Eagle Gate Stake Center, 135 North A Street. Friends may call at the Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, Friday evening 6-8 p.m. and at the Stake Center on Saturday, 9:30-10:45 a.m. Interment, Salt Lake City Cemetery.
