Max Gardner, age 87 of Sevierville, passed away Saturday, May 24, 2014. Max served in the U.S. Navy from 1945-1946. He was a graduate of Elon College where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education. Max taught school at Grace Christian School in North Carolina. After moving to Sevier County in 1976, he worked for the Knoxville News-Sentinel until retiring in 1990.

Max was preceded in death by his parents, James and Victoria Gardner, brothers Paul and Littleton Gardner of North Carolina, and son Paul M. Gardner of Sevierville.

Survivors:
Wife: Lucille Gardner
Daughter and son-in-law: Margaret and Tim Rolen of Sevierville
Son: Blair Gardner of North Carolina
Grandchildren: Victor, Spencer, and Ashley Gardner and Sara Rolen, all of Sevierville.
Sisters: Victoria Hill and Jane Lasley, both of North Carolina

Funeral service 7 PM Tuesday in the Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home with Elder Larry Barker officiating. Interment 2 PM Wednesday in Alder Branch Cemetery with military honors provided by American Legion Post #104. The family will receive friends 5-7 PM Tuesday at Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville.
