I met my great-grandmother only once. It was the winter of 1949. She was nearly bedridden, as she was ninety years old. She was very hard of hearing. She used a hearing cone in order for her to hear us. It reminded me of a cheering cone, but bigger at the larger end. My dad asked her if she could still play the piano. She answered in a whisper, "Yes." She very slowly made it to the piano and sat and played for us. She wanted to hear me say my prayers and she kept asking me to talk louder. She seemed kind and loving, but I remembering being a little afraid, she seemed very fragile, which she was. She lived a full life. God called her home at age, 91 1/2 years old.
