A professor emeritus at Purdue University, Prof. Botkin was in the technical graphics department when he retired after working there more than 40 years.
Prof. Botkin was a member of several scientific and professional societies, including the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, American Society for Engineering Educators, the American Association of University Professors, and the Professional Society for Nuclear Defense.
He was active in the community, having served as a cubmaster, West Lafayette Little League, and the West Lafayette Athletic Booster Club. He was a member of the John Purdue Club, the Elks Club and Rotary Club. He was appointed to the West Lafayette Traffic Commission in 1959 and was reappointed six times. He formerly was involved with the administration of the Purdue Employees Federal Credit Union, and served as trustee and treasurer of the West Lafayette Public Library for eight years.
Prof. Botkin was a member of First Christian Church. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.
Surviving are two sons, Michael Botkin of Lafayette and Kenneth Botkin of Houston, TX; a granddaughter, Lisa Hickman of Austin, TX; and a sister, Dorothy Copeland of Rochester. He was preceded in death by a son, Martin Botkin on Aug. 13, 1991. Service Aug. 7, Soller-Baker West Lafayette Chapel; internment Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.
