Gordon Albert "Shorty" James, 81, of Cranston, passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2014, from injuries sustained in a hit-and-run accident. He was born in Cranston, the youngest of ten children of Lionel Henry James and Mary Elizabeth (Whitney) James.

Gordon was a Korean War veteran, serving with the 43rd Infantry Division and achieving the rank of Corporal. He was a well-known and gifted musician, playing the piano in the Rhode Island area and at services and occasions at his church, People's Baptist Church in Cranston.

Shorty is survived by a brother, Charles T. James and his wife, Marjorie; two sisters, Susan E. Whitehead and Lillian C. Hassett; nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late George L. James, Louis L. James, William V. James and Allen H. James, the late Dorothy I. James and Marjorie Martini.
