Shelby native Kenneth Merle Koontz, 75, of Heritage Square, Mission, TX., died Thursday in the emergency room at Medical park Hospital in Hope, Arkansas. He was returning home after visiting relatives in Shelby.

Born Aug. 9, 1914 in Shelby to Bert and Edith Leona Sells Koontz, he retired from CPC in Ontario in 1977. He was employed in the Shelby Fire Dept. in the 1940's. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a member of the Nikki F. Rowe Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2369 in McAllen, TX, and a life member of Disabled American Veterans Federal Chapter 80.

He is survived by his wife, Lois Roorback Koontz; a son, Richard D. Koontz of Shelby; two stepsons, Larry Snyder of Shelby and George Snyder of Willard; five step-grandchildren; his stepmother, Dosia Koontz of Urbana; two brothers, Carl and Paul Koontz, both of Florida. He was preceded in death by a sister.

Masonic services will be conducted Monday at the Turner Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mansfield Memorial park. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Mansfield Joint Veterans Council.
