Son of William and Frieda (Lapine) Appling, born in Nebraska but raised in Southern California, Fr. William Appling was ordained a Catholic priest on April 27, 1955. He was an assistant pastor at Nativity Catholic Church in Torrance, CA. He served as pastor of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Guadalupe, CA, and he also served at St. Francis of Assisi parish in Fillmore, CA, and St. Brendan parish in Los Angeles, where he died at age 66.
