Her older sisters, Lizzie and Mary, made cigars, and her older brothers, William and James, helped their father on the farm. Her oldest brother, Edward, a farmer, was lodging nearby at the home of William Sipling, and her oldest sister, Margaret, was married to Vitus Smith who was also farming nearby.
