Residence Hancock County GA.
Enlisted for the duration of the war on 8/7/1861, he was mustered into "E" Co. GA 15th Infantry as a Private at Manassas, VA.
Hospitalized 3/18/1862-4/27/1862 Chimborazo Hospital #3 in Richmond, Va. for pneumonia.
He died of disease contracted during the Battle of The Wilderness, Va.
On 10/27/1864, on behalf of his widowed mother, Elizabeth Franks, Attorney William A. Walton filed a settlement claim.

The 15th Infantry Regiment, organized in the spring of 1861 at Athens, Georgia, contained men from Hancock, Stephens, Elbert, Lamar, Warren, Wilkes, Taliaferro, and Oglethorpe counties.
