HAMPTON - On May 18, 2014, God called his angel home. Romatha A'Shantay Brown was born on March 25, 1981 in San Antonio, Texas, Lackland AFB to the proud parents of Gailey Brown and GySgt Paul T. Little. A'Shantay better known as "Shantay" was full of life and showed love to all that knew her. A'Shantay graduated from Hampton High School in 1999 and Wilson Community College in 2001 as a Computer Science Specialist. She worked as a teacher's assistant, assisting children with special needs prior to recruitment to military service. In 2007, she entered the United States Army while she served for seven years. Specialist Romatha Taliaferro received many awards and honors for meritorious service during her tour leading to an honorable discharge in 2013. A'Shantay is survived by her husband, Montae Taliaferro of Hampton, VA; her loving and dedicated mother, Dr. Gailey Brown-Edmundson and stepfather, Ernest R. Edmunson of Hampton, VA; her father, Paul T. Little of Georgia; her grandparents, Ralph and Romatha Brown of Hampton, VA; her favorite "brother" and uncle, Ralph Brown, Jr. of Kuwait, and several aunts, Kitty Tunstall, Gloise Brown, Nancy Brown, and Bee Bee Brown of Maryland and Hampton, VA and a host of cousins family and friends of North Carolina and Virginia. Viewing will be held Thursday, May 22, from noon to 6:00p.m. at the funeral home. A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 23, at 11:00a.m. at Park Place Baptist Church, 711 Spruce St., Hampton. Interment will follow at Albert G. Horton Jr., Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk, VA. Arrangements by Ronald C. Perkins Funeral Home.
