DEATH OF MRS. BALES

VENERABLE LADY DIED NEAR OAK KNOLL ON SATURDAY MORNING.

Had Been a Continuous Resident of Napa County for Thirty-five Years—Is Survived by Hushand and Ten Children.


Mrs. Lydia Hampton Bales, wife of Commodore Perry Bales, an aged and highly esteemed lady resident of Napa county for the past thirty-five years, died at the family residence near Oak Knoll about 8 o'clock Saturday morning, after having been in failing health for several months.

She was a native of Tennessee, aged 71 years. She was married in Indiana, in 1867, and came with her husband to Napa county.

Besides her husband, she is survived by ten children. They are:
Mrs. Alice Williams of Berkeley, Mrs. Nellie Hoffman of Oroville, Wm. Bales of Napa, Mrs. Clarke Fawver of Oak Knoll, Mrs. Bessie Suhber of Yountville, David Bales of Napa, Mrs. Gertrude De Bord of Richmond, Mrs. Dulcie Christiansen of Sebastopol.

All with one exception (Mrs. Hoffman) were at the bedside of their mother when she passed away.

She also leaves two sisters—Mrs. Mary Cleghorn of Ocean Park, Cal., and Miss Lizzie Hampton of Howell Mountain, and four brothers—David Bales of Sonoma county, James Hampton and Elisha Hampton of Yountville, and John Hampton of Indiana.

There are also twelve grandchildren.

The funeral will be held Monday, December 13th, at 11 a.m. from the residence, interment to be made in Yountville cemetery.
