John Kovacs was born in Hungary in 1912 to Mary Krepcsar Kovacs and Andrew Kovacs; John was the second child of three and the only son. In 1929, John emigrated to America with his mother, Mary, and his sister, Margret (Marge); John is listed as a barber, and Marge is listed as a hairdresser. They eventually settled in Chicago, Illinois where they worked hard creating a life for themselves. John's oldest sister, Mary married John J. Fodor, and his sister, Margret, met and married Louis Fodor. John was very close to his sister Marge and his mother; they loved each other very deeply.
John fell in love with Rose Sera and they married in 1933. They were blessed with a son, John Robert Kovacs, in December 1936. Unfortunately, Rose passed away in January 1937 and John's son was raised by his wife's uncle as Robert John Hussar. Robert reached out to his birth father, John, in John's later years and they were able to visit.
John was fortunate to fall in love again, this time with Barbara Palla. John and Barbara were both Hungarian and shared a love of bowling and dancing and playing poker with their large group of friends. They went on to marry in September 1939 and were blessed with two daughters. Unfortunately, they divorced in 1952.
