Nancy L. Koons, 94, of Fremont, died on Friday, May 16, 2014 at the Valley View Nursing Home, Fremont.
Mrs. Koons was born in Walthall Co. Mississippi on July 24, 1919 to the now deceased John and Myrtis (Ellzey) Barnes. She graduated from Progress High School, Magnolia Mississippi in 1937. In 1940, she graduated from Mississippi Baptist School of Nursing. She was a 1st Lt. in the Army Nurse Corp during WWII.
On January 31, 1944, she married Dale C. Koons in Jacksonville, FL. Dale preceded her in death on October 15, 2010.
Nancy had worked for many years at Fremont Memorial Hospital. She retired from the office of Drs. Koons and Yost. She had volunteered at the blood banks. Mrs. Koons loved to play bridge and enjoyed sewing. She served as a poll worker for the Sandusky Co. Board of Elections for several years. She had been a member of the Green Springs United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Mace, Cincinnati, Cynthia (James) Scranton, Fremont; three grandchildren, Melissa (Anthony) Decker, Ryan Pocock, all of Cumming, Georgia, Nicole (Thomas) Holtmann, Wilder Kentucky; two great- grandchildren, Cole and Kylee Decker; and one sister, Vernell Vaccarella, McComb, Mississippi; and one sister-in-law, Nell Barnes, Madison, Mississippi also survive.
Nancy was preceded in death by brothers, Willard and Charles Barnes; and sisters, Madge Barnes, Natha Lee Strickland and Cleotha Hoatland.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 from 2-4 and 6-8:00 pm at the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, 218 S. Main St., Clyde. The funeral will be on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at 10:30 AM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Green Springs Cemetery with military rites provided by the VFW and American Legion.
