Lena Ives Barger, age 86, of Burgaw, died Friday, September 17, 2004, at Huntington Health Care. She was born December 22, 1917, in Richlands, and was the daughter of the late Albert Lee Ives and Rosa Hewitt Ives. She was predeceased by her husband, Guy P. Barger and brothers, Albert Ives Jr., Ike Ives and Charles Ives. Mrs. Barger was a member of Burgaw Baptist Church and for many years was active in the Burgaw Woman's Club in which she served as past president. She was District Manager in Sales for World Book Encyclopedia for fifteen years. Lena was proud of serving as the first female juror in Pender County. Surviving are her daughters, Carole Blossom of North Topsail Beach, Brenda Whiteside of Burgaw and Janis Brennan and husband Timothy of Fayetteville; grandchildren, Steven D. Bryan, Frank Blossom, Nancy Blossom, William Bostic Jr. and wife Karla and Jackie Bostic Hudspeth and husband Mark; four great-grandchildren; and brother, Glenn Ives of Wilmington. Graveside funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Riverview Memorial Park with the Rev. Dr. Clarence Dodgens officiating. The family will receive friends 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Saturday at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home in Burgaw. Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home, Burgaw.
