Born on October 26, 1923 in Mansfield, Pa, he was the son of the late Earl Sr. and Daisy (Brace) Shaw
Earl is survived by his wife Margaret, their son Wayne and daughter-in-law Debra Shaw of Monrovia, MD, their daughter, Marilyn (LynSue) Browning and son-in-law Robert Browning of Mt. Airy, MD, three grandchildren, Ivan Browning of Mt. Airy, Heidi (Browning) Halterman and husband Russell, and Matthew Shaw of Hagerstown, MD. Earl is also survived by four brothers Richard and Paulie Shaw of Dallas, TX, Bryon and Barbara Shaw of Painted Post, NY, Harold Shaw of Mansfield, PA, Gayle and Barbara Shaw of Elmira, NY and a sister, Marilyn Lee of Bolivar, NY. He was predeceased by three brothers, Daryl Shaw, Robert Shaw and Leland Shaw; and four sisters, Laree Coates, Roberta Vaughn, Virginia erway and Alice Scott.
Earl was a graduate of Richard Montgomery High School and Mansfield State Teachers College Class of 1951. In 1952 he started teaching Science at Damascus High School until his retirement in 1984. During that time Earl was recognized several times as MARYLAND OUTSTANDING SCIENCE TEACHER of THE YEAR. He received his Master Degree from American University.
He enlisted in the United States Army in 1943 to 1946. He was assigned to the 131 AAA (Anti-artillery Aircraft) Battalion, 1st Army and landed at Utah Beach. Later his Battalion was assigned to the 9th Army until his discharge in 1946.
He was a past commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10076 in Mt. Airy, MD. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 191 in Mt. Airy, MD.
Earl enjoyed softball, bowling and was an avid golfer along with his wife Margaret.
Friends are invited to call 7-9 p.m. Monday May 19, at Molesworth-Williams P.A., Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Road, Damascus, MD 20872. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 20th at the Funeral Home. Interment to follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Mt. Airy.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Damascus Volunteer Fire Department, Mt. Airy Volunteer Fire Company or the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10076
