He returned to the family farm for a brief time and later managed the Ecco Ranch near Buffalo, KS, later moving to Fredonia and Arkansas City before settling in Beloit, Kansas in 1970.

On July 24, 1949, he married his high schoolhttp://cdncache-a.akamaihd.net/items/it/img/arrow-10x10.png sweetheart Mary Marcelyn McCoy at Wellington, Kansas. Six children Douglas, Deanna, Delores, Darwin, Marietta, and Mark -- were born to this happy union.

Max and his familyhttp://cdncache-a.akamaihd.net/items/it/img/arrow-10x10.png came to Beloit in 1970. He was a true founding father of the Solomon Valley Feedlot. He knew his profession well and was highly respected in the industry. During his working years, he had the privilege of serving as President of the Kansas Livestock Association and the National Cattlemen's Beef Association. He retired in about 1998.

A man of honesty and integrity, Max touched many lives. People knew him to be one whose word was gold. When not working, he loved reading and was an outstanding vocalist, having sung at many weddings and funerals over the years. A committed Christian who loved God's word, he blessed many local and country churches by his lay preaching over the years.
