Obituary

Evelyn was born in Yard, Texas on December 3rd, 1917 to Wade Morris Sanders and Bessie Margaret (DeCou) Sanders and passed from this life to Glory on May 17th, 2014 at the Homestead of Sherman. At the age of 4, her mother died and she became the woman of the house. Her father worked on oil rigs or construction jobs and they often lived in a tent. Evelyn and her brother went to live with their aunt Annie Hill of Denison, Texas so she could start school. At the age of 13 she and her brother moved to Sherman where their father had a house. When she was 16, her father married Minnie Runnels Sanders and Evelyn had a mother for the first time since she was 4. Evelyn graduated from Sherman High School in 1936 and then spent a short time at a business school. She married Ezra Bow Beckett on June 6th, 1938. They had five children together, Judith Ann Beckett, Mary Margaret Beckett, Samuel Morris Beckett, Billy Charles Beckett and Daniel Bow Beckett. After her husband's death on April 23rd, 1964 Evelyn learned how to drive and went back to school. She was in the first graduating class at Grayson County College for the Nursing Program and became a Licensed Vocational Nurse. She spent her entire working career at Wilson N. Jones Hospital before retiring at the age of 65. Evelyn was a charter member of Woods St. Church of Christ where she faithfully attended till declining health prevented it.
Evelyn was also preceded in death by her parents, son Samuel Morris Beckett on Jan. 21st, 2012, and brothers Gordon Webster Sanders and baby brother Sanders.
She is survived by her daughters Judith Ann Beckett of Sherman, Texas and Mary Margaret Pope and husband Robert of Denison, Texas; sons Billy Charles Beckett of Sherman, and Daniel Bow Beckett and wife Evelyn of Pottsboro, Texas. She is also survived by 3 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 6-8PM on Tuesday, May 20th, at Waldo Funeral Home. Services will be held at 1:30PM on Wednesday, May 21st, at Waldo Funeral Home chapel with Bill Mayes, minister, conducting services. Interment will follow at West Hill Cemetery.
