Kenneth Walter Tolbert, 84, of Rocky Gap passed away Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2006 at his home.
Born Jan. 15, 1921 in Bluefield, he was the son of the late Walter Scott and Stella Craig Tolbert.
He served with the U.S. Army during WWII, was attached to the Hq. Co. 1st Bn., 410 Inf. Div. He served in Guatemala, Panama, Galapogas Island, France, Germany and Austria. He was a member of Rocky Gap Methodist Church, Past Master of Elbert Munsey Lodge No. 298 AF&AM and Past Patron of Rocky Gap OES No. 154.
He was the last surviving member of his family.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Dorothy Harry Tolbert; four daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Jim Holland of Jacksonville, Fla., Linda and Jim Harman of Bastian, Va., Kim and Rodney Lambert of Narrows, Va., and Kathy and Bob Robinson of Abingdon, Va.; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:30 p.m. at the Rocky Gap United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jeff Calahan and the Rev. Larry Ramey officiating. Burial will follow in the Monte Vista Cemetery, Princeton.
The family will receive friends today from 5-8 p.m. at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice of Southwest VA, 600 W. Ridge Road, Wytheville, VA 24382.
