Mrs. Martha "Marsie" Kirkland Frazier Alderson, 96, retired owner of Alderson Cleaners, died Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at Life Care Center of Columbia.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Dawson officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 4 – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

The Lawrence County native was the daughter of the late Frank Earl Frazier and Bess Kirkland Frazier. On October 27, 1940 she married James Robert "Bob" Alderson, Sr. who preceded her in death February 12, 2000. She was a talented seamstress who did French hand sewing for her many grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening and was a member of her local garden club, was involved in Girl Scouting with all four of her daughters and was a member of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Alderson loved to cook, bake and feed her family. In later years she enjoyed playing games with her very best friend, Juanita Blevins and loved boating on the Tennessee River with "Daddy Bob". She was a member of First Family Baptist Church.

Survivors include her children, Bobby Alderson, Jr., Beth DuBois, Sara Jane Alderson, Rosemary Alderson, Lynne (Terry) Hendrickson all of Columbia and Earl (Glenna) Alderson of Amherst, Massachusetts; grandchildren, Stan (Kathy) Alderson of Nashville, Rob (Brook) Alderson of Long Creek, South Carolina, Tom (Anita) DuBois, Michelle DuBois Dickens, Marci DuBois Middleton all of Columbia, Wesley Hendrickson of Atlanta, Georgia, Kyle Hendrickson of Nashville, Donna Alderson Boaz of Columbia; and twelve great grandchildren.

Active pallbearers will be Tom DuBois, Sam DuBois, Ryan DuBois, Wesley Hendrickson, Kyle Hendrickson, Stan Alderson, Rob Alderson, Ben Dickens and Tristan Alderson.

Honorary pallbearers include her best friend, Juanita Blevins and members of First Family Senior Women's Sunday School Class.
