Woodrow V. "Woody" Ohms, 98, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at 7:05 p.m. in Hospice Franciscan Communities.

He was born March 15, 1916 in Evansville, Illinois to the late David and Maggie (Mohr) Ohms.

Surviving are his wife, Janet Ohms of Michigan City, IN; son, Daniel (Lois) Ohms of Waco, TX; daughter, Anne (Randy) Berryman of Hernando, MS; and 4 grandchildren.

He was preceded by 2 sisters and 5 brothers.

Woody was a World War II Navy Veteran who served from 1941-1945 as a Machinist's mate second class aboard the USS Philadelphia. After he was discharged from the Navy he married Miss Janet Malik of Michigan City in 1945. They celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary this year on February 2nd.

Woody retired from NIPSCO in 1977 after working as an auxiliary operator for 28 years.

He was a member of Queen of All Saints Catholic Church, American Legion Skwiat Post 451 and the V.F.W. 2536. Woody enjoyed gardening, reading, playing the guitar and watching the New York Yankees.

Visitation will be from 1-5 p.m. Sunday at Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, IN and 9:30-10:00 a.m. Monday at Queen of All Saints Catholic Church. The American Legion Skwiat Post 451 and VFW 2536 will conduct a memorial service at 4:00 p.m. Sunday in the funeral chapel.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 19, 2014 at Queen of All Saints Catholic Church, 606 S. Woodland Ave., Michigan City, IN with Rev. Kevin Huber officiating.

Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery with full military services conducted by the American Legion Skwiat Post 451 and the VFW 2536.
