Sandra Rae Aamlid, age 76, of Sioux Falls, SD died in her home Tuesday, April 15, 2014.

She was born Jan 15, 1938 in Canton, SD to Milo and Eunice Lee, the oldest of three children. She grew up on a farm near Inwood, IA; she and her younger brothers Paul and Clark were very active in 4H. During High School in Inwood, she starred offensively in Iowa girl's rules basketball.

She majored in Home Economics Education at SDSU. She met Robert Aamlid, her beloved husband, during her freshman year. They were married December 28, 1958 in Inwood, and, after graduation, moved to Robert's hometown of Bridgewater SD. She raised a family while teaching home economics at Bridgewater

Sandra was both a teacher and a student for most of her life. She obtained her Masters Degree in clothing and textiles from Mankato State in 1988. Following her high school teaching career, she taught at several local colleges and universities, including SDSU. She had been preparing to teach an upcoming course this fall. She also remained active in 4H, and found excellence in the kitchen as well as at the sewing machine. As a clothing judge with 4H, she was regarded as tough but fair. In her recent work at Minnehaha County Extension, she helped adapt the role of the office to meet the needs of the changing population and culture. Her advice was undoubtedly an important component of countless safe and delicious Thanksgiving dinners. She served as a seasonal canning instructor at Ace Hardware. She was famous for her pecan pie and had been looking forward to teaching that skill to her granddaughters.

Involvement in committees, circles, and work groups at First Lutheran Church had been important to her. She and Robert also were tireless supporters of their children and grandchildren in their pursuit of 4H, music, theatre, and athletics. She may have been the only mother to sew a purple pantsuit (team colors of Bridgewater) to wear to all of her children's games, home and away. Throughout her life, Sandra remained a loyal Jackrabbit fan.

She is survived by her husband Robert of Sioux Falls, son Brian and wife Denise of Sioux Falls, daughter Cindy and husband John Chisham of Marshall MN, daughter Sharon and Husband John Miner, Atlanta GA, 11 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, Brother Clark and wife Carol, and sister in law Joyce.

She was preceded in death by parents Milo and Eunice, and brother Paul, and an infant sister Sharon.

Funeral Services will be held 1:00 pm Saturday, April 19, 2014, at First Lutheran Church, 327 S. Dakota Avenue, Sioux Falls.

Interment will be at Richland Cemetery, Inwood, Iowa.

Visitation will begin noon Friday, with the family present to greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 Friday evening at Miller Funeral Home, 507 S. Main Avenue.

Memorials may be directed to the First Lutheran Church Media Ministry.
