Lester W. Schmitting, 36, Stockbridge, took his own life Saturday afternoon with a shotgun in the bathroom of his home after returning from snowmobiling.

He was born August 12, 1934 in the town of Woodville, a son of Mrs. Ida Kruger Schmitting, Hilbert, and the late August Schmitting.

On Sept. 10, 1955, he married the former Rose Heimbach in Stockbridge.

Survivors include his wife; six sons, Russell, Jeffrey, Lester Jr., David, Jamie and Nicholas, all at home; his mother; a brother, Ralph, Hilbert, and a sister, Mrs. Dorothy Duprey, Hilbert.

Funeral services were held at St. Mary Catholic Church, Stockbridge with the Rev. William Willinger, pastor, celebrant of the funeral Mass. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
